Parents…Tell us about your child’s great school!

The Accommodating School Award is presented to a school for their extraordinary acceptance of a child with Tourette Syndrome and for their willingness to accommodate to meet the child’s educational, social and developmental needs. The award is generally presented at TS Family Camp and school staff is invited to hear our Keynote Speaker and have dinner with us.

Here are just a few examples of our previous winners:

The 2014 Accommodating School Award was presented to PA Cyber Charter School.  This was the first time a cyber school has been selected.  The school has been an amazing support to a family affected by TS.  Their son floundered in the regular ed setting and has flourished in this academic setting.  He is able to relax and not worry about other students around him.  He has free time to pursue his interest in art and has really improved his writing in this setting. 

The 2013 Accommodating School Award was presented to Davis Elementary in the Centennial School District.  THis amazing school helped a new student adapt and feel supported when he enrolled in first grade mid year!  

The 2012 Accommodating School Award was presented to Dallastown Intermediate School- Team Integrity of York, PA.  Read about what an exceptional school they are!

The 2011 Accommodating School Award was presented to Mattison Avenue Elementary School of Ambler, PA.  This school went above and beyond for their students!

The first Accomodating School Award was given to Southwestern High School in 2010.  Their outstanding support of a teen with TS was not overlooked.  They held trainings for his 9th grade teachers and an additional training when the classes changed in January.  They broadcast an interview with the student to promote awareness and acceptance of him with his peers.  This student went from being misunderstood to being well-known and popular for his ability to be open about his struggles.

We accept nominations for the Accommodating School Award from October to April each year!
